Approving the Metropolitan Transportation Commission Hazard Mitigation Plan allows AC Transit to be eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mitigation grants.
BUDGETARY/FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no budgetary/fiscal impact from approving the plan. Having an approved plan allows the District to apply for certain types of FEMA grants.
BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) approved the report "2021 MTC Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan" (MJHMP) in accordance with federal law known as the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. The MJHMP is the Hazard Mitigation Plan for the San Francisco Bay Area and addresses different hazards and what recovery might look like. It serves as a starting place for dialogue on public policies that can limit the potential loss of life, property damage, and environmental harm from natural disasters. The MJHMP was developed jointly by MTC and the following partner agencies: AC Transit, Central Contra Costa County Transit Authority, Marin County Transit District, Napa Valley Transportation Authority, Santa Rosa CityBus, Solano County Transit, Water Emergency Transportation Authority, and the Western Contra Costa Transit Authority. The MTC adoption of the MJHMP plan is included as Attachment 3 and gives a summary of the plan background.
